The NMC is put together by Tosin Ajibade the founder of Olorisupergal.com and this year’s edition held at Glitz Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos on 20th  July 2018. The event attracted huge participants from different walks of life. This year’s conference was themed “Connecting the Dots” and the conversations were centered around various aspects of new media.

This year’s edition featured four general sessions, two masterclasses, brand exhibitions, networking and a major add-on which was the book launch.

Keynote Speech

The keynote speech was delivered by Nigeria’s presidential aspirant and Motivational Speaker, Fela Durotoye. Fela provoked many to think about their perspectives on life and our roles as influencers. In his own words, “In building your social media brand, it all starts from your perspective – the way you see yourself, your brand, societal issues, etc

Leadership is ultimately the ability to shape people’s perspective. As an influencer, you have the power to sharpen society’s thoughts, beliefs or actions. If everything rises and falls on leadership and leadership is about influence, then everything rises and fall on influence.” Durotoye said.

This means that everybody needs to be a wise influencer. Shape the thoughts of those who read their posts positively and everybody should be polite in their post on the social media.

Fast Forward: e-Payments

The first-panel session was moderated by Abdulrahman Jogbojogbo of Paystack, other experts in the e-payment industry were on board for the session.  The panelists all agreed that e-payment platform providers must provide a secure platform for users because the consumer’s major concern is managing the risk of being defrauded online and if e-payment platform providers can consistently deliver on their promise of smooth payments operation over a period of time, people will begin to trust them and patronage will grow.

Evolve: How New Media is Changing the Conversation

This session was moderated by Bukky November and panelists in this session include; Ronke Bamisedun, Toba Obaniyi, Joke Ogunlewe, and Afua Osei.

During this session, Toba hammered on the accountability of views and why every individual on the social media platforms should be held responsible for every information they churn out on the internet in order to reduce the rate of fake news while Joke talked about negativity on social media and elaborated on the importance of a two side story. She advocated for the responsible use of social media.

The peak of the Event: Book Launch titled “From Social Misfit to Social Media Hero”

This was a session in which everyone has been waiting for because lots of Tosin Ajibade’s fans couldn’t wait for the book to be launched. The book reading was done by BBC’s Princess Abumere, Entrepreneur Shade Ladipo, Actor and Producer Lala Akindoju, SME expert John Obidi and sister Bunmi Ajibade.

Sade Ladipo was introduced to anchor the book launch and after that, Bimbo Ajibade, Tosin’s sister was first called upon to read an excerpt from the newly launched book. But she almost reads the whole first chapter. Also, BBC’s Princess Abumare read a few paragraphs on the educational background of Tosin’s life. In her comment about the book, Tosin said the first chapter of the book was the hardest to write and she wrote to inspire virtually anyone around her. “This book has been 3 years in the making” the new author explained. “It’s a true labour of love for me as an online entrepreneur. A lot of young and aspiring media entrepreneurs always ask me how I got to where I am, with this book I hope to provide a deeper look at my story”.
