The South Africa State Information Technology Agency (SITA) has partnered with Microsoft to move all government-owned services information to Microsoft-owned cloud platform, Azure Web Services. The partnership was signed at the ongoing GovTech conference in Durban and it is in tandem with SITA’s aim to digitize government services.
GovTech is a conference that brings together government officials, business industry, and tech companies to provide new solutions that can speed up the country’s tech growth. The conference creates strategic conversations around obstacles in service delivery by government agencies and suggests appropriate tech solutions to combat these issues.

The Managing Director of Microsoft in South Africa, Lillian Barnard noted that this partnership will help the company empower digital transformation in South Africa. She also noted that the decision to launch Microsoft Azure cloud services in South Africa was born from the knowledge that the service will have an enormous impact on the citizens.
To Barnard, Cloud technology will transform the public sector as it will optimize and create a prompt service delivery system. It will also empower the private sector to create innovative ideas that will drive economic growth and job creation in the country.
The partnership makes Microsoft a key partner in the digitization stride of the South Africa government.
