SOUTH AFRICAN STARTUP HEARX JUST RAISED OVER $2.8 MILLION IN FUNDING - Techgistafrica

The eHealth startup known as hearX was developed at the University by Professor De Wet Swanepeol and Doctor Herman Myburgh back in 2013. The startup officially launched in 2015.

The startup’s first product was an app called hearScreen. HearScreen was specifically a smartphone app that could detect hearing loss and provided links to health services to assist those experiencing this problem.

The eHealth startup has now spread to over 25 countries across the world and continues to expand further. Through their international partners across Europe and Southeast Asia, they have been granted investments adding up to $2.2 million USD. The hearX group has also earned over $500,000 USD in grant funding, as well.

Nic Klopper, the chief executive officer of the hearX group, says that “these investments will be used to scale existing solutions, research and development of new products, and to gain access to new markets globally.”

Although hearScreen has proven to be the hearX Group’s flagship product, they have continued to make more products beyond that. These products include hearZA, mHealth Studio, hearTest, and hearDigits.. They have also launched a partner product called Peek Vision.

The investments and support that they have raised will be put forth to its innovative efforts to provide healthy hearing for people in need. So far, they have reached just over 70,000 people, providing them with convenient and low-cost solutions.

The hearX Group has launched the world’s first smartphone device that allows people to view inside of ears to examine others’ eardrums. This new product known as hearScope went live today on August 12st, 2017.
