The Big 5 Daily: 5 Kenyan Agri-Tech Start-up to Picth At Innov8Agric Challenge, Nissan Set to Establish Assembling Plant in Ghana

Crenov8 Consulting, organizers of the biggest African-Middle East Agro Conference; Meet the Farmers Conference (MTFC) have selected five start-ups from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to Pitch at the Innov8Agric Challenge.

The challenge is scheduled to hold during their annual MTFC Kenya Programme, where the shortlisted Startups would compete for a chance to win the $5,000 grant prize at the maiden edition of the Agric Innovation Contest. See the list of selected start-ups.

After China’s leading cloud computing company, Inspur Group Co. Ltd. picked Ghana for its regional headquarters in West Africa and Angela Merkel of Germany revealed that the German car maker would be establishing an assembling plant in the country.

Now, it seems Ghana will also be home to the Nissan West Africa assembling plant as the Japanese Company is finalising talks with the Ghanaian government’s, Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen said.

Also, South Africa’s fintech company; JUMO secured $52 million on an equity funding round led by banking giant; Goldman Sachs (GS. N)  and is set to expand in high-growth Asian markets.

Other investors include; Proparco, Finnfund, Vostok Emerging Finance, Gemcorp
Capital, and LeapFrog Investments.

Moving back to Kenya, MEST Incubator to Be Hosted in Nairobi Garage… New Nairobi operations of the African Leadership University (ALU) and the Pan-African training; Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) would be hosted in Nairobi Garage. Nairobi Garage is the largest co-working space provider in Africa with two spaces covering 50,000 square feet.

Still on Kenya, 8 Start-ups have been selected by renowned start-up competition; Seedstars to pitch at its event in Nairobi for a place in the global final and to stand a chance to win US$1 million in equity investment.  Seedstars has selected winners from Egypt, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Ghana, Rwanda, Libya, Uganda and Senegal, and has teamed-up with Nailab to hold its Kenyan leg on September 21.

The winner at the event will win an all-inclusive trip to Switzerland in April 2019 to compete at the Seedstars Summit for up to US$1 million in equity investment and other prizes.
