Lenovo Fold

The Motorola brand now owned by Lenovo may resuscitate its legendary RAZR model in the form of a foldable phone judging from US Patent and Trademark Office patents found by Dutch tech blog Mobielkopen. This was confirmed by a January report in the Wall Street Journal.

Mate X Fold

Huawei blew people away with the Mate X that was released at the Mobile World Congress 2019. The front screen is a 6.6 inch display with a 6.3 inch display and folds out into 8 inch 2480 x 2200 screen. The phone folds outward unlike the Samsung fold which screen gets hidden inside.

The key features of the Mate X include the Kirin 980 processor, Leica-branded triple camera system, 8GB RAM, 512GB storage drive, 256GB nano memory, and Balong 5G connectivity modem. You can have side by side browsing in two tabs and you can view two apps at once. It costs about $2600 and will be available in summer directly from Huawei through its online store. The EE and Vodafone has confirmed plans to sell the Huawei Mate X on their platforms in UK.

Xiaomi Fold

Amidst this technology is the Xiaomi which is in the prototype stage. It’s a double-folding phone where the top and bottom of the tablet-sized screen fold down, leaving you with a compact smartphone.

Apple Fold

Last March, CNBC reported that a new foldable iPhone could be released in 2020, and that it could likely double up as a tablet. Apple filed a patent for ‘Flexible display devices” in October 2018. It includes the foldable device related patents which have been awarded to Apple over the years. The document refers to the hinges where the screen bends and how they work.

Apple is not always first to launch products from previous trends. The Apple watch wasn’t the first smart watch, neither was iPhone the first smart-phone. The company waits to refine created products and puts together new exciting features to create something more intuitive and superior to competitors.

Some notable features Apple introduced are the touch ID, Apple Pay and Face ID, this time it delayed in releasing its foldable phone. The iphone X Fold is set to be released in 2020.

These new foldable phones have Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays which are made up of pixels that are able to bend. OLED panels enjoy excellent viewing angles, primarily because the technology is so thin and the pixels are so close to the surface.

We look forward to these digital trend and can’t wait to start collapsing our phones!
