Let’s begin today’s Big 5 from Egypt.

Recall that we reported that the Uganda government has started collecting tax for using social media in the country. Now, Egypt has joined the list of African country regulating the use of Social media. Egyptian Parliament passed the bill to regulate and treat social media accounts with more than 5000 followers as media outlets citing security and the rise of fake news as reasons for the new law. That said, still in Egypt, the team behind a solution that aims to help lifeguards be more effective in maintaining beach safety called “Beach Safer” has made it to the final of the Microsoft Imagine Cup.  The 16th annual Imagine Cup competition calls on student teams to come up with an idea for a technology application that solves a real-world problem, create a business plan and bring the concept to life and is open to 29 countries across the world.

Tunisia to Launch Use of Drones in Agriculture Pilot Project… Tunisia is set to launch the pilot of a project aimed at using drones in agriculture. The project’s aim is to introduce the usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the Sidi Bouzid region.
