MTN Group and the Nigerian government finally reach an agreement over the assumed irregular repatriation of profits from Nigeria, valued at $8.1 billion between 2007 and 2015. It will now pay US$53.2-million in a settlement with the Nigerian Central Bank, a small portion of the $8.1-billion the Bank had requested from the group’s subsidiary in the country.

Avanti Communications together with UK Space Agency have provided 312 schools in Tanzania access to the internet, transforming education for over 34,000 children. The project, which is called iKnowledge will furnish rural areas with satellite internet to improve education in Tanzania as well as develop innovation and technology.


The Kenya’s Central Bank has launched new currency coins to better support SMEs in the country. During the launch, the new currency coins were circulated with the denominations of Sh1, Sh5, Sh10, and Sh20. The Sh1 coin displays a giraffe image, Sh5 coin displays a rhino image, Sh10 coin display a lion image while the Sh20 displays the image of an elephant.
