Lagos Digital Summit 2018

The organisers of the Lagos Digital Summit have taken yet another stride with the success of their second event on the 23rd of November, 2018. Held at the Zone Tech Park, Gbagada Lagos, a hall chosen to make provision for a larger audience, the summit is aimed at harnessing the constant innovations in the digital world for the advancement of Nigeria as well as West Africa.

The summit focused on the impact of digital media on businesses and how founders, as well as managers can ensure relevance and profitability in a fast-evolving digital world.

This year’s summit is dubbed “Digital and the Future of Business” and it saw hundreds of digital marketing professionals, techpreneurs, social media influencers, innovators and policymakers in attendance.

Dr. Joe Abah, Country Director, Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI) and former Director General, Bureau of Public Reforms delivered the keynote speech.

Also present at the event were, Frank Donga – Social Media Influencer, Lanre Adelanwa, Head of Marketing, SidMach Technologies, Jude Odia, Chief Operating Officer, Starcom Media Perspectives, Felicia Otolorin, Lead, publisher Relations, Google Nigeria and some other big personalities in the digital media sector.

At the conference, TechGist Africa team had a chat with Dr. Abah and he talked about the challenges facing digital economy in Nigeria and how it can be tackled.

“I think access to digital technology is still too expensive in Nigeria.” He said. “The charges we pay for broadband, the charges we pay for accessing the internet still needs to come down because it still exclude a significant number of people. So, if we are going to improve the use of digital technology, we need to make access cheaper, we need to make digital access in Nigeria faster because the download speeds we have here are very slow compared to what they have in other countries.”

“And we need to include digital technology in our education system and also need to include it in the way we work,” Dr Abah said.

The first panel session had Woli Arole, Frank Donga, Fisayo Fosudo, Femi Bakre discussing the topic “Creative Entreprenuers & Digital – Test, Trend & Tactics”  and it was anchored by Isabella Akinseye.

The session began with Akinseye asking Woli Arole and Frank Donga to discuss creativity and they started out by making the audience reel with laughter with a live version of their popular online persona. This made the room lit with excitement and then the moderator continued proceedings from then on.

“You can’t make money if you are not creating value for yourself.” Fisayo Fosudo had said.

The panel was very vibrant and it engaged the various creatives in attendance.

The second panel session featured Modupe Ogunyemi, Head of Marketing, Bounce News, Tomiwa Ogunmodede, Head Marketing – Farmcrowdy, Terver Bendega, Brand Manager at Taxify West Africa and Tosin Ajibade who moderated the session.

During this panel, the speakers discussed the topic “Digital & Your Business – Challenges, Experience & Impact” and ended with questions from the attendees.

Participants, panelists and speakers at the event expressed that the Conference was impactful and they would love to be part of it again.
