Recap of the ICT & Telecommunication (ICTEL) Expo 2019

The 5th edition of the ICT & Telecommunication (ICTEL) Expo was held on the 16th and 17th of July, 2019 at the Landmark Centre, Lagos State. The two days event was organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCC) to equip participants and attendees with knowledge of the latest tech developments in the Nigerian ICT and Telecommunication sector. 

ICTEL EXPO 2019 was attended by more than 2000 participants and over 500 exhibitors from upcoming and recognized brands across Africa. On the first day, the ICT Director, Ministry of Communication, Mrs. Moni Udoh officially opened the event and the opening speech was given by Babatunde Paul Ruwase, President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce. Also present was Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, representing the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta. 

Other guest speakers were Innocent Udeogu – Ubenwa, Udoka Uzoka – Intelia, Ndubuisi Ekekwe – IBM, Yinka David West – Lagos Business School, Uwem Uwemakpan – Tony Elumelu Foundation, to mention just a few. It was an excellent opportunity for innovators, startups, investors, academia, decision-makers, professionals, techpreneurs and enthusiasts to come under the same roof and network.

During the event, Afrione – one of the smartphone makers in Nigeria, unveiled their studio sound gadgets called ‘Afrione Beats’. Another highlight of the event was the pitch session for startups with tech-enabled businesses to secure investments. The pitch deck was won by Edupoint, an edutech platform for online tutorials on different topics. The cash prize was received by Oscar Obiora, the CEO and Co-founder.

ICTEL EXPO started in 2015 as an organized trade fair and exhibition show for the ICT and Telecommunications industry. The theme of this year’s event, “Fourth Industrial Revolution; The Nigerian Story”, served as an eye-opener to the latest technology feats in the African industry.
