The authorities in the United Arab Emirates have unblocked internet calls for visitors to the Expo 2020 venue.

The authorities want to allow visitors to make calls using WhatsApp and other internet apps on the Expo 2020 Dubai grounds.

For years, the United Arab Emirates has restricted most applications that use Phone over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services – free internet-to-internet voice and video communications.

Dubai hopes to strengthen its economy by inviting 25 million visitors to the world fair.

It was unclear whether the leniency will extend beyond the six-month expo or be extended to other parts of the UAE.
