Google and the National Museums of Kenya (NMK) has launched a new project to digitize and display Kenya’s National museum online. The launched project dubbed ‘Utamaduni Wetu'(Meet the People of Kenya) is part of Google’s Arts and Culture initiative.
Google Art & Culture Project is an online platform that houses high-resolution images and artworks of partner’s museum.
The digital platform utilizes high-resolution image technology to enable users to virtually tour partners’ museum galleries, and explore physical and contextual information about artworks.
It also allows viewers to compile a virtual image collection of artworks.

The Google Art $ Culture project in Kenya will exhibit the 10 million specimens available at the National Museum of Kenya NMK, and that of the 28 other communities in Kenya.
The Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture, and Heritage – Amina Mohammed explained that the project will enable users to explore the country’s cultural heritage. It will also help to renew the forgotten values, beliefs, and customs of Kenya.
The Country Director Google, Mr Charles Muritio also described the project as a move to promote and preserve Kenya’s culture.
Before now, Google Art and Culture project has partnered 151 museums and arts organizations from 40 countries and features more than 32,000 artworks from 46 museums.
Images from the museum can be accessed via the Google Art & Culture App.
