We have news that UNESCO has partnered with Armor (A French cloud security company), to equip students in some African countries with photovoltaic films. These films will be used to power portable lamps that will aid reading. These lamps will be charged by sunlight. The initiative was first tested in Togo.
Pan-African telecom operators MTN, Orange and Vodacom are looking to penetrate Ethiopia following its telecom privatization. Ethio Telecom has taken a big step for its privatization by pre-selecting six consultancies in partnership with the World Bank. Its businesses will be split into two. This will offer huge growth potential to new entrants. This is a good one for Ethiopia, don’t you think so?
Next on the Big 5 Daily, African mobile telecommunications, MTN has chosen Oracle Cloud Applications to pioneer digital transformations across all its core business operations. Implementing this operation will aid MTN drive efficiency, scale operations and integration across its local and regional operations in Africa.
Moving on, The Nigerian Communications Commission has fined 9mobile, Globacom, Airtel and MTN a total of $205,394.04 for violating regulations. 9mobile was fined for promoting without approval. Airtel was charged for promoting an unapproved advert. Globacom was fined for an unapproved advert and for its failure to provide information regarding its collapsed masts in two sites situated in Jalingo, Taraba State. MTN was charged for not seeking regulatory approval for promotion.
Finally on the Big 5 Daily, Facebook partnered with Vodacom Lesotho to create Facebook Flex a connectivity service that will let people access its latest news and headlines for free. It is set to let customers essentially switch between free and data modes in liking, commenting and sharing contents. This is a good development for Lesotho Facebook users!
