Amazon Launches PayCode in Kenya, Telecoming, Ubongo Partner and More

E-commerce giant, Amazon has rolled out a service dubbed PayCode which allows customers purchase goods and make payments at a local Western Union retail agent. PayCode is a payment option for e-savvy consumers in Kenya that may not have access to international credit cards or may prefer to buy goods in their local currency.

Also, in partnership with Ubongo, Africa’s leading producer of children edutainment contents, Telecoming will increase the distribution cartoon shows — ‘Akili and Me’ and ‘Ubongo kids starting with Kenya and South Africa with prospects of further expansion.

Sad news reaching us has it that one of Nigeria’s promising fintech startup, OyaPay shut down its operations last week. It was first launched on December 1st, 2017 and had a very interesting approach to the problems in the Nigerian financial landscape. OyaPay helps facilitate transactions between businesses and their customers with and without a smartphone. It was revealed by the CEO Hassan Abdulhamid that the shutdown was as a result of an unfulfilled investment promise by his uncle.

Furthermore, Pesapal has integrated Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, FitBit Pay, and Google Pay remittances on its new tap-and-go contact less Sabi M010 terminals. Business owners across East African region can now conveniently accept digital wallet payments from their customers.

To bring the news to a close, we have news that Inspire Africa Group has launched STEAM program for South African Schools. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. It uses techniques in both drone operation and programming to teach South African students. Beautiful initiative!
