Zimbabwe’s on-demand ride-hailing service – ‘Vaya’ has recorded a remarkable growth within 7 months of operation. The service which launched in Zimbabwe in October 2018, is owned by Econet through a subsidiary called Cassava Smartech. The platform which is available on both Android and IOS app stores gained traction with over 500 drivers with the first month of launching.

Vaya’s CEO, Eddie Chibi, revealed that the service is now available in every town in Zimbabwe. The company recorded the registration of 10,000 active drivers within 7 months. Chibi expressed his gratitude towards the growth so far.

“Following our commercial launch back in October last year, we have been driving Vaya mobility business growth. Starting with the launch of our hail riding service which has done phenomenally well. We are now in every city and town in the country” he said.

Another report disclosed that Vaya provides over 100,000 rides across Zimbabwe – a significant number that indicates how much increase they have gotten in less than a year. Although Vaya is in competition with Estonian ride-hailing service ‘Bolt’ and UK based company ImotaCars, it has managed to do well for itself. With the level of growth achieved within 7 months, it is safe to expect a much greater growth from Vaya in a year.
