Social media giant, Facebook, welcomes millions of users around the world into 2021 by offering them better security options using safety keys to verify their identity prior to logging into the social network’s mobile app.

Facebook has also announced their plans to expand the “Facebook Protect” program, a security feature that caters to high-profile accounts, currently available in the USA, and it offers a means for politicians, government agencies, and election personnel to set up additional safety provisions such as two-factor authentication and real-time tracking for potential hacking threats.

In a statement, Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s Head of Security Policy, shared that “Our thesis is that you have to protect accounts because every compromised asset can become a tool that is used by bad actors for greater harm – much greater – afterward, in addition to causing immediate harm to people,” he added in his statement.”

The mobile support plans will make token devices available to account holders for purchase in person and online from selected retailers and registration will be enabled with Facebook in 2021.
