In a bid to boost artificial intelligence education and development, Facebook has come on board in partnership with edtech platform Udacity. Facebook will through this partnership, provide AI scholarship to students globally.
This initiative was announced by Facebook during their F8 conference. The initiative tagged ‘Secure and Private AI Scholarship’ is looking to train about 5000 interested individuals with different AI skills. They aim to equip students with privacy skills, techniques—federated learning, differential privacy and encrypted computation. All registered students will be able to interact and collaborate with each other and also receive constructive feedback on projects.

At the end of the first phase of the scholarship program, the top 300 students would be awarded a full scholarship program on Deep Learning Nanodegree program or the Computer Vision Nanodegree program from Udacity. The program is open for application but general enrollment will begin on the 30th of May 2019.
Through this initiative, Facebook joins the likes of IBM, Google, Microsoft etc. to build a learning AI environment for data scientist and cloud engineers. IBM has an AI research facility in Kenya for its product, IBM Watson. Google recently launched an AI centre in Accra, Ghana and Microsoft recently opened an office in Lagos solely for AI and mixed reality development.
