The Global PC report also noted that about 70.6 million units of PCs were shipped in the fourth quarter of 2019. A total of 261 million units were shipped last year. This amounts to a 0.6% year-on-year increase in global PC market when compared with the 259.7 million units shipped in 2018.

HP Inc came next in the hierarchy of the most shipped PCs. It also maintained the top position in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Dell followed suit with a 12 million unit shipments for the first time in a long while. This was made possible via the competition it created with HP in Europe Middle East and Africa Market (EMEA).

Also, in Europe, the Middle East and Africa Market (EMEA), PC shipments increased by 3.6 YOY. There were 21 million units of PCs been shipped into the region.

The Senior Principal Analyst Gartner, Mikako Kitagawa commended the growth in the PC market. He noted that the growth was the first in the market after 9 years of shallow waters. The growth was also driven by the demand for Windows 10 Upgrade in the US, EMEA, and Japan. Kitagawa also remarked that the demand for business PCs further contributed to the growth in 2019.

The growth in the PC market may not be constant in the next few years due to many factors. However, we are hopeful that the increase in PC shipment, especially the launch of foldable laptops might spur more growth in the future.
