Starting from June 1st, 2021, the unlimited free photo storage provided by Google Photos will be replaced with a 15GB maximum limit for every Google account user.
The decision follows the sporadic growth in Google Photos app storage usage by Android and iPhone users, making it increasingly expensive for cloud storage expansion by Google.
The decision is also aimed at encouraging user subscription to the paid storage service- Google One, which offers users a monthly payment plan from $2 for 100GB storage and additional features like Google store discounts.
Existing users will still have access to their past photos and their current photo storage will not be counted as part of the proposed 15GB limit.
Hence users are advised to backup any existing pictures between now and June 1st to take advantage of the extra storage space available to them within this grace period.
