GSMA Innovation Fund Calls for Submission

The GSM Association, a global trade body for mobile network operators all over the world, calls for submission for the GSMA Innovation Fund for Digitization of Agricultural Value Chains. They plan to offer the sum of £220,000 to selected agritech startups.

The GSMA Innovation Fund is open for all innovative agritech startups that are offering digital solutions to improve financial inclusion, livelihood and climate resilience of smallholder farmers.

The agritech startups with innovative ideas that target agribusiness and cooperatives who procure from smallholder farmers – especially those that live on less than $2 per day, are eligible to apply. Eight startups will be selected at the end of the program. The selected startups will each be provided with £220,000 grant to grow their projects within 2 years.

All applicants will go through a two-stage process. The concept note stage; where the project objectives and strategies will be stated. The second stage will be the business plan stage for shortlisted applicants, it will take place in August 2019.

The business plan stage will encompass strategy implementation, scaling services, a budget projection of how the grant is to be spent, and a work plan for the 24 month period.

GSMA will provide startups with business plans and service implementation support. The support will be provided through market research, user-centric design, business intelligence, user-testing with agribusiness smallholders.
