Instagram has begun hiding fake images on its platform. This move was part of its decision to rid the photo and video-sharing platform free of fake content.

The fight against false information on social media platforms has been on for a while now. It could be recalled that Instagram announced it was rolling out a feature that will help to combat fake information in December. The features will be used by third-party checkers to reduce false information, and remove manipulated photos.

Instagram also uses image-matching technology to search and identify fake contents and apply the misinformation label. The platform will also automatically bar images identified as false by Facebook.

In Africa, Instagram fake images and content were grossly labelled. There were also instances of popular photographer’s image been labelled due to its manipulative look.

This move will adversely affect photographers and artists globally. It will probably make them unseen since they will be removed from Explore and popular Hashtags. However, it will bring sanity to the social networking platform and help to curb the circulation of wrong information.
