Jaguza has bagged a total of $27,500 grant prize from both the National ICT Initiatives Support Programme (NIISP) and Africa Blockchain pitch competition. The agritech startup based in Uganda received UGX 100 million from the NIISP and UGX 2 million from Africa Blockchain, equivalent to $27,500 in total.
Jaguza Tech develops mobile agritech solutions and drone technology to help farmers monitor and manage their livestock farms. A microchip is placed on the cattle and data is collected and notifications are sent to the farmer via the web or mobile app.
The livestock app uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to help detect heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and location of farm animals. Also, drones are used to monitor the whereabouts of livestock from an aerial view. The drone has a chip and thermal cameras to send and receive signals from the microchips on the cattle.

The National ICT Initiatives Support Programme is funded by the government of Uganda to support tech startups and promote innovations in the country. Now in the second year, the program has so far had 655 startups sign up for the fund. Jaguza Tech is part of the 60 startups that were selected to receive the grant. Other beneficiaries of the UGX 100 million include Akellobanker and Patasente.
Jaguza also emerged the second runner up in the Africa Blockchain pitch competition. The startups were given the opportunity to pitch digital solutions backed by modern technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Drone technology, and Big Data.
Jaguza is already in use by farmers in Uganda and Mozambique. They have plans to expand to other African countries in a few years time.
