Lagos Based Startup RentSmallSmall, to create flexible means for Rent Payments

Lagos is the most populated city in Nigeria and Africa with a population of up to 23 million people. A report by ‘Savills’ a real estate firm in 2016 ranked Lagos as the most expensive city in Africa, considering that houses are over-priced making it tough for people to rent an apartment. Factors like exorbitant rent, scarcity of suitable/comfortable apartments and proximity make it difficult for the average Lagosian to get an apartment.

RentSmallSmall however, has stepped in to create an avenue for Lagosians to secure an apartment in Lagos. Founded by Tunde Balogun and launched in October 2018–+ the proptech startup provides a seamless means for people to rent any type of apartment in Lagos. Leveraging on the issues faced by Lagosians regarding house rent, RentSmalSmall aids prospective tenants to get a convenient apartment within 48 hours. The prospective tenants can then decide to pay up in any convenient means; monthly, quarterly, semiannually or annually, with an added 8% of the base rent.

The platform lists various types of properties for rent; apartments for families, office spaces and studio spaces. Each property has its price range, with affordable houses for as low N50,000 monthly. Customers of RentSmallSmall are insured by AXA Mansard Insurance Plc. The cover ensures that the tenant is insured against defaults that could arise from job loss, critical illness or accident.

RentSmallSmall ensures that their clients are verified. They achieve this by subjecting intending tenants to verification processes like; check of IDs, referees, employment status, and income proofs. The proptech platform is only available on Lagos island axis and hopes to expand to Lagos mainland later in the year.
