The Lagos State government is clamping down on the ride-hailing companies operating in the state. This follows the recent ban on commercial motorcycles which also affected Gokada, ORide, and Max.ng.
Lagos state government is now impounding vehicles of drivers registered under ride-hailing companies. The government has instructed that all commercial drivers must be certified by the Lagos Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) to operate. Drivers are expected to renew their LASDRI licenses annually.

The ride-hailing drivers must also obtain hackey permits for commercial and non-commercial vehicles.
In 2016, the Lagos state’s Road Traffic Regulations on Taxi Operations stipulated that all taxi operators must be licensed.
There have been alleged reported cases of arrest and fining by Vehicle Inspector Officers. An officer of the Lagos Vehicle Services explained that commercial drivers need the license to operate.
Ride-hailing operators have been advised to obtain the licenses for drivers to continue rendering their cab services.
