MTN appoint Yolanda Cuba as new Chief Digital and Fintech Officer

MTN Group announced the appointment of Yolanda Cuba as the new Group Chief Digital and Fintech Officer on the 18th of July 2019. Yolanda will be joining MTN Group from Vodacom, where she served as Chief Officer of Strategy and M&A.

Yolanda Cuba was the CEO of Vodafone Ghana before her role at Vodacom. She led Vodafone Ghana for three years and won the award of Telecom CEO of the Year in 2018.  Now appointed as the Chief Digital and Fintech Officer, Yolanda will be a member of the MTN Group Executive Committee, where she will report directly to Rob Shuter, the Groups CEO.

As the Chief Digital and Fintech Officer, Yolanda will play a major role in leading the Group to achieve its strategic expansion vision. This vision borders on the expansion of their financial services and digital solutions efforts and eventually, transcend into a major digital operator in Africa.

Rob Shuter said they are pleased to hire an executive of Yolanda’s calibre into MTN Group. He noted that Yolanda is a highly qualified and experienced executive. She has skills spanning across operational telecommunications, finance, financial services, and digital skills. He is confident that Yolanda’s leadership will place MTN Group in good stead, even as they intensify their efforts to building a digital ecosystem and scale their Fintech offering across the African markets.

Yolanda Cuba, on the other hand, commented that the role will allow her to drive digital innovation and financial inclusion across MTN’s vast footprint.  In her words, she said she is really “looking forward to the new challenge and become part of the MTN leadership team”.

Although MTN Group didn’t reveal the exact time that Yolanda Cuba will be assuming the new role, they recounted that the appointment aligns with their strategy to progressively grow the Fintech and digital opportunities in Africa.
