MultiChoice Africa is set to reduce the monthly DStv and GOtv subscription fees charged their subscribers across East Africa. Especially subscribers across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and some specific package subscribers in Mozambique.

This move by MultiChoice East Africa is due to price reduction by their pay-tv counterpart StarTimes. The Pay-tv company reduced its charges in April 2019 for its Kenyan subscribers. Multichoice confirmed to ‘TVwithThinus’ that it will be lowering subscription charges for DStv and GOtv subscribers in Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, and Tanzania.

The following DSTV packages in Mozambique will also go through price reduction in September 2019. They include; DStv Bue, DStv Grande+, DStv Grande and DStv Facil. However, GOtv Plus and GOtv Lite subscription fees in Mozambique will increase as well as Multichoice Malawi. The affected packages include; DStv Family and DStv Access.

While DSTV in Uganda will see up to 30% reduction, Kenya will get a bigger reduction of about 5-37%. Kenyan DStv Premium subscribers will get 5% reduction, DStv Compact Plus 13.46%, DStv Compact 21%, DStv Family 36.84% decrease, and DStv Access 5%.

The diversity in the prices according to MultiChoice Africa is due to local dynamics like; inflation, content costs, foreign exchange rates, local taxes, and overheads required for each business.
