ShowMax, a Multichoice online video-on-demand service, is test-running its live TV streaming features on the ShowMax platform. They have released a live sports streaming option to a selected number of users.
The platform reportedly revealed that it has been test-running the feature in the past days. The feature is available on trial with a small number of contents. Available contents include a live broadcast of South Africa’s ICC Cricket World Cup games, extended highlights from major games, magazines and talk shows from SuperSport, selected professional and amateur events including games from the SuperSport Rugby challenge, sport-focused movies and documentaries.
ShowMax through their official twitter handle has revealed that they have no intention whatsoever to offer full sports contents and bouquets.

There are no current plans to offer full bouquets of all sports, however, we do intend to try different content on the service over time. ~ME

ShowMax was created in 2015 by Multichoice to serve the Online video content market. It grants subscribers access to movies and series through internet enabled devices anywhere in the world. The platform which provides on-demand video content competes with big platforms like; Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
DSTV, which is also owned by Multichoice, offers live content through decoders to subscribers and the DSTV Now App that works with internet-enabled devices too. However, ShowMax has more subscribers than the DSTV Now app. This new service could turn ShowMax from an SVOD (Subscription video on demand, or “streaming video on demand”) to a video platform.
