Statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed that the number of GSM internet subscribers grew by 3.6 million in April 2019. According to the statistics, the number is currently at 119.5 million as against 115.9 million recorded in March 2019.
MTN Nigeria gained extra 3.5 million subscribers, making a total of 50,026,393 subscribers in April 2019, against 46,552,185 in March 2019. MTN maintains its position as the market leader in the Nigerian telecommunications market.
Globacom gained 191,005 new subscribers, growing its subscribers from 28,436,386 to 28,627,391, placing it as the second biggest market share owner. Airtel follows Globacom with 94,412 new users. 9mobile, however, trails behind with a loss of about 201,050. Visafone gained 9570 new subscribers. Although GSM internet subscribers grew in April, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) subscribers lost 1243 subscribers in April in 2019.

Telecoms lost about 72,782 subscribers according to the stats for April 2019. The total number of subscribers now stand at 173,641,060 in April 2019. MTN maintains its dominance of market share at 37.33% with a total number of 64,732,167 users. Globacom followed with 26.75% with a total number of 46,380,756 subscribers, while Airtel followed closely by 26.20% with 45,433,300 subscribers. (mobiles market share stood at 9.64% with 16,720,146 users. Visafone has the last share of the market at 0.07%, with117,434 users.
Although 9mobile lost subscribers, they were the highest gainers of network porters. About 4,017 users ported to 9mobile from other telecoms in Nigeria, a thousand higher than MTN, which recorded 3,018. Airtel and Globacom recorded 809 and 697 porters respectively.
The number of 3G and 4G broadband subscribers grew by 900,000, with a 33.70% at 64,332,974, the report revealed for April 2019.
