The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued 10 new licences to Value-Added Service (VAS) providers. This is in a bid to boost innovation in the telecom sector and also improve the quality of services the sector renders.
The NCC announced the issuance of the licences in a document. They also predicted that the market value of VAS would grow to $500 million in 2024.
- The Licenses were issued to;
- I-Cell Multimedia Limited,
- Nina-Jojer Limited,
- 21st Century Technologies Limited,
- Nitroswitch Limited,
- HML Consulting Limited,
- Iykejordan Limited,
- Cognys Systems Limited,
- Perpetual Communications Limited,
- Mobile Intelligence Limited, and
- Aerandir Technologies Nigeria Limited.
NCC noted that the licences will scale income generation for network operators and content developers. They also noted that it will scale innovation, local content, and employment opportunities.

More than 24 million registered subscriber records were de-duplicated through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). The action was in a bid to create a credible database of phone subscribers.
NCC also upgraded the database with “Add SIM” and “Update SIM” features, as well as the National Identity Number (NIN) for improved SIM registration process. In a bid to make NIN mandatory, the NCC is partnering with NIMC. The partnership will see to it that NIN is required for sim registration, sim retrieval, and sim reactivation.
