Nigerian students from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna Nigeria, have emerged winners of the Huawei ICT Competition. The global competition took place on the 26th of May 2019 at Huawei’s headquarters in Dongguan, China.
The team emerged as the winner during the regional competition in March 2019. They competed alongside, Kenya, Tanzania, and Angola. The Nigerian team ranked first in Africa with a dominant score of 790.4, Tanzania tagged behind with a score of 745.6, Kenya with a score of 737 and Angola with a score of 700.8. Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, and Angola went on to represent Africa at the global stage in China.

The Nigerian team competed with 49 other teams that totaled 147 students from 30 countries in a battle for the global trophy and they placed 3rd in the competition. Adebayo Abdulqudus, one of the Nigerian teams said it cost them the dedication and hard work to get to the top trophy.
The Huawei ICT Competition is a global ICT talent exchange event that began in 2015. The 2018/19 event tagged ‘Connection, Glory and Future’ attracted over 1,000 universities in over 50 countries around the world. Over 80,000 students participated globally including 28, 000 students from Sub-Saharan Africa.
