Nigeria’s FarmCrowdy Partners Livestock 247 for Improved Livestock Production and Trading

FarmCrowdy Group and its subsidiary, agro aggregator, today entered into a partnership with Livestock247. Just last month, the FarmCrowdy Group launched FarmGate Africa to provide major processors and international buyers easy access to African farmers. The signed partnership with Livestock247 will strengthen their stakes in production and trading.

Farmcrowdy has established its first farmyard in Adamawa State through this partnership with Livestock247. So far, the farmyard houses over 24000 bulls, with about 1,200 feedlots spread throughout the North West, North East and Southern parts of Nigeria.

Kenneth Obiajulu, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Farmgate Africa said that they intend to collaborate with others in agribusiness to deliver value for smallholder farmers and major buyers.

Livestock247 has an online platform called ‘Livestock247.com’ where buyers and sellers trade livestock conveniently all day long. They make sure only fit-for-slaughter livestock are traded on the portal. Veterinary doctors also offer the livestock owners diagnostics and epidemiology lectures on the site. So far, Livestock247 has operations across Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Niger, Adamawa, Taraba, Abuja, and Osun States. It plans to expand to Enugu and Rivers states in the southern part of the country.

The Federal Government of Nigeria encouraged livestock owners to provide an alternative to nomadic pastoralism, a major source of conflict between farmers and nomads. The CEO and CO-founder of Livestock247 said that their feedlot programme is in line with the National Livestock Transformation plan set up to address these issues.

Onyeka Akumah, the Group CEO of Farmcrowdy Group also expressed his joy in partnering with Livestock247. He attested to the fact that the agricultural ecosystem of Nigeria cannot be built alone. He also reinforced the importance of leveraging on partnership with experts and stakeholders in the sector.
