PAYGO SOLAR HOME SYSTEMS INTRODUCED IN NIGERIA - Tech Gist Africa
THE PARTNERSHIP THAT WILL REVOLUTIONIZE LIFE IN NIGERIA’S RURAL COMMUNITIES

Solar power at an affordable initial price will soon be available in Nigerian households as Azuri Technologies, a provider of PayGo solar home systems partners up with Nigeria’s Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).

To own a solar home system, Nigerian customers will only need to pay an installment via their mobile money accounts monthly for 36 months. There is also an option to upgrade the service to one known as “energy escalator pathway”.

The service will make power available to 20,000 rural households living without electrical power currently in Nigeria. Azuri’s solar home systems can power up to 8 hours of lighting on 4 LED bulbs along with a radio and a USB port for charging phones before they need to be recharged in the morning.

The provision of the service is also going to directly create 500 (but possibly temporary) jobs in Nigeria. NHPDC is an initiative of the government of Nigeria.

The partnership is evidence of the government’s commitment to renewable technologies as a way of generating electricity for rural communities.
