StarTimes to promote agriculture via it's media platform

StarTimes Media, a Pay Television Company has announced its plan to boost Africa’s agricultural transformation via its digital media platform. It will create access to digital local content targeted at the rural areas in Africa.

The company announced its plans at the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) event held in Ghana. The AGRF is an event that connects stakeholders in the agricultural sector to share and exchange ideas, develop programs, investments, and policies that will drive sustainable agricultural transformation globally.

As regards to the announcement, StarTimes will contribute by providing access to Satellite Television under its 10,000 African Villages project. This move aligns with StarTimes’ effort to scale collaboration between China and Africa. They aim to have connected a total of 10,112 villages by the end of 2019 through satellite television.

According to StarTimes’ Vice General Manager for overseas business, Zhang Junqi, they would make their broadcast platforms available for relevant educational contents which are targeted at the rural population. 

In his words; “We aim to make it our social obligation to make our broadcast available platforms for relevant educational content targeted at the rural population. At StarTimes, we begin broadcasting content related to agriculture from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and other related resources localized in each country and broadcast to local dialects.”
