WHAT IS ECOACT?
A Tanzanian startup by the name of EcoAct has won the 2017 African Finance and Investment Forum (AFIF) Entrepreneurship Award. The environment protecting start up takes away with it a large cash prize along with a year of media promotion on both a national and international level.
The AFIF investment forum is hosted by the AFIF with the support of the Rabobank Foundation. The aim of the event is to support African-based Innovative small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) to grow their businesses. Six SMEs were selected for the finals where EcoAct was finally announced the winners at Nairobi, Kenya.
EcoAct is a startup that addresses the challenges of waste management and pollution in urban areas. It recycles consumer plastic waste and transforms it into plastic lumber. Through the creation of this plastic lumber, the startup is also able to reduce the need for timber and by so doing, decrease deforestation.
