SOUTH AFRICAN TRANSPORT APP PLANS TO EXPAND

In emerging countries, information on public transport services is often unavailable, incomplete or low quality. This makes it difficult for people staying in these areas to maneuver around the city quickly, make plans and optimize transport networks. A South African transport technology startup known as WhereIsMyTransport, solves this problem with the service it offers. WhereIsMyTransport is set to expand all over Africa and the Middle East in the near future.

The startup began in Cape Town with the goal of mapping the entire informal transportation network of the city. Through its efforts, WhereIsMyTransport made it possible for millions of people in Cape Town to find out the fares, routes and frequencies of the entire minibus taxi network and improved these people’s access to transport.

In no time, WhereIsMyTransport expanded to other cities across the continent and has made public transport more accessible to people across the continent. The company works with partners in the private and public sectors to integrate data the platform with existing technologies in each area. In February of this year, the startup increased its coverage to 20 cities when it added on Gaborone, Botswana and East London in South Africa.

Furthermore, the company has announced that it will be mapping out more formal and informal public transport systems for additional cities in Africa. What is your take on this company? Please let us know in the comments below.
