Big news! PalmPay, an Africa-focused fintech startup has launched a ₦100 million COVID-19 payout fund. The startup will waiver transfer fees for Nigerians and also offer an individual payout of N100,000 for its customers with the COVID-19 virus.  

Next, Amazon has unveiled its first cloud data center in Africa. Situated in South Africa, the center will aid individuals, businesses, and organizations to access Amazon’s next-generation technology.

Also, Nigeria-based media firm, Stears Business has secured $600,000 seed funding. The funds were secured from Luminate, an investment arm within the Omidyar network, and other undisclosed Nigerian investors.

On collaborations, Carbon, a digital credit and financial services company has partnered with AXA Mansard. Carbon is leveraging the collaboration to delve into the health insurance sector.

Finally, Netflix has gained over 15 million new subscribers in the first quarter of 2020. The current growth surpasses its initial prediction of 7 million before the COVID-19 outbreak. This totals Netflix subscribers at 182.86 million paid subscribers.
