Workspap saw high demand for skilled workers in Kenya and stepped in. Launched in January 2019, the platform connects people with listed verified artisans. They also list students looking for internship placements.
Workspap is a network of artisans, students, and merchants. It was founded by Boniface Murithi after he experienced difficulties in finding a mechanic when his car broke down on his way from Nairobi to Meru.
“It took me around two hours to get a mechanic through the traditional referral method. The mechanic who came was not experienced. He had to get another mechanic, for whom we also waited for another hour,” he told Disrupt Africa.

This is similar to what Ommo Clark is doing with Handy Jack in Nigeria. Handy Jack connects you to vetted handymen, technicians and professional service providers. These startups ensure that all listed artisans are verified for competence, identity, and safety.
So far, Workspap has approved and listed 2000 artisans from across Kenya. They plan to expand to other East African countries within the next three years.
