Truecaller, the app for ascertaining caller id and detecting spammers is adding a free VoIP-powered calls feature. This new feature comes as Truecaller looks to expand business services.

The free voice call feature is already rolled out for Android users and will soon be made available for IOS. It will serve as a cheaper alternative to traditional calls and would be accessible via mobile data subscription and Wi-Fi coverage.

According to Truecaller’s blog post, users make more than 180 million phone calls through the Truecaller dialer per day. They noticed that half of the calls are to other Truecaller users and decided to roll out a direct call option via the app. With this, Truecaller now offers an integrated platform for Messaging, Mobile Payments, Recording, Call Logs, Contacts Profile, and Caller ID. All these are accessible over ad-free tier and paid subscription bundles without the user switching over to another application.
