Twitter Warns Android Users to Update App Immediately

Twitter Android

Twitter has issued warning for Android users to update their Twitter Apps immediately. The warning was first issued in a pop-up security update to Twitter Android users on Friday.

The Twitter Privacy Center revealed that the microsite recently fixed a vulnerability within its android app. Before detection, the vulnerability allowed hackers and cyber thieves to see non-public account information and control users’ accounts.

The information can be gotten through a complicated process which allows the hacker to insert malicious codes into the restricted storage areas of the App. These codes give the hacker direct access to the users’ Direct Message, Protected Tweets, and location.

Twitter has currently fixed the issue which prompted the issued warning call. However, Android users are expected to update their app to the latest version to implement the security measure introduced.

Twitter will be sending notifications to the users affected by the bug. The message will convey specific instructions to combat the bug in tandem with their Android version.

It is pertinent to note that African Twitter users have been barred from logging in to their accounts without first updating the app. The users are expected to update the page before being able to login to Twitter. The bug only affected Twitter Android App users, leaving out iOS Twitter users.
