The East African regional office of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has partnered with Huawei to provide digital skills and the application of Artificial Intelligence in the region. The partnership was revealed by the director of UNESCO East Africa, Ndong-Jatta, during the recently concluded Tech4ALL summit at Huawei Connect, Shanghai China.
Tech4ALL summit is a brainchild of Huawei with a mission to promote digital inclusion strategy that focuses on the areas of technology, applications, and skills. It was under the auspices of this programme that the partnership was signed to promote equal educational opportunities.

The partnership between UNESCO and HUAWEI will:
- Enhance digital skills amongst teachers and students through the use of Huawei DigiTruck. This will help teachers to integrate ICT into teaching and to teach students how to use digital technologies.
- Organize forums and events to enhance member states’ capacity on the use of AI.
- Coordinate efforts to improve digital skills amongst youth leveraging Huawei’s ICT Academy program, Huawei ICT Competition and Huawei Campus Ambassador Program.
- Promote the adoption of AI and cloud computing in education by offering cutting edge ICT training in areas of AI and Cloud Computing to learning institutions, teachers, and students in Eastern Africa.
- Sponsor collaborative research on Digital Skills to improve digital knowledge in Eastern Africa
- Promote the importance of Digital Skill by engaging with their respective stakeholders.
The regional director of UNESCO in East Africa, Mrs Ndong Jatta reiterated the importance of digital skills to education while commending Huawei for the innovative TECH4ALL initiative. She noted that the partnership will foster the accomplishment of the United Nations SDG goals in Africa.
