Vodacom, Pick n Pay & Nedbank have thrown their weight behind indigenous phone manufacturing company, Mara in South Africa. The backing will help Mara launch into broader markets.

The launch of Mara phones in Rwanda earlier in the year marked the arrival of locally manufactured ‘Made in Africa’ phones. The company expanded to South Africa and currently produces its Mara X and Y phones in both countries. The backings will, therefore, enable Mara to distribute its phones to new markets and further penetrate Africa.

Mara will leverage the partnership with Pick n Pay to sell its phone in South Africa and 8 other Africa countries where the retail store operates.

Also, the partnership with Vodacom and Nedbank will enable the indigenous phone company to reach strategic clients and allow moderate payment plans for the phones.

The Managing Executive, Nedbank noted that the duo shares a similar philosophy of promoting made in Africa solutions. He stated that the partnership will make the Nedbank Mobile app become preinstalled on all Mara phones.

Also, the bank will provide flexible finance options for clients to be able to pay for Mara smartphones. Since its launch in August, Mara has sold its phones in 46 countries through its online store.
