Starting from 14th December 2020, Apple has set a mandatory disclosure of data collection and usage from all applications listed on the Apple app store without excluding its own app from the new rule, with the hope to “focus the minds” of both developers and consumers.

The announcement is also said to not be a change in the business model of publishers and the new notification will be displayed on the apps to enable users to decide whether they are comfortable with the data activity of an app before it is downloaded for their privacy and security. According to Dr. Stephanie Hare, Independent researcher, and journalist, “It doesn’t change the actual nature of their data and what’s happening with it.

It makes them more aware of privacy, but the choice about how to download the app itself hasn’t changed.”
