In a bid to scale the presence and credibility of music streaming service on ‘YouTube’, Google is replacing Google Play Music on Android phones with YouTube Music. The YouTube Music app will be pre-installed on new Android 10 and Android 9 Pie devices that run on full Google services.

This development ensures that YouTube Music remains the default music player of Android smartphones.

The pre-installation announcement was made via YouTube’s official blog. Google is yet to specify the devices that will have the app pre-installed on them. They announced on their blog that the Google Pixel Series will have this feature.

Google’s official statement read “Music fans on Android phones can now easily unlock the magic of YouTube Music, which will be installed on all new devices launching with Android 10 (and Android 9), including the Pixel series.”

It is imperative to note that YouTube Music is available for download on the Google Playstore for devices without the app. This was announced by the Product Manager of YouTube Music, Brandon Bilinsk. He said that music listeners with new Android 10 devices who wish to use the Google Play Music, may do so by downloading it via the Google Play Store.

The users will have access to the entire catalogue of music uploaded to the YouTube video streaming platform. This will allow them to access video and audio-only music tracks.
