Every year, girls aged 10 – 18 are trained to solve problems in their communities using modern technology. At the end of the training, these girls successfully develop mobile apps and startups to solve problems across various challenges. The Technology Innovation Challenge has been running for 9 years across over 100 countries.
Girls are grouped into teams to come up with a business plan, develop a mobile app, launch the app and pitch the business to judges. 15-year old Felistas Zvavamwe and four other girls from Cowdray Park High School in Bulawayo formed a team to participate in the challenge.

She figured that students failed to pass important information from school across to their parents. Letters from school to parents either get trashed or remain in student’s school bags. This act of negligence often results in disputes between parents and teachers during PTA meetings.
They applied for the Technology Innovation Challenge to proffer solutions to the challenge the school faces. At the end of the program, they have successfully developed a Messenger app that connects parents to teachers. This way, parents will be able to keep track of the pupil’s activities and stay updated to administrative activities in the school.
The Messenger app features tools and notification as channels of communication. It combines school notification, mobile apps and web content management in an easy-to-use platform.
