A MERGER THAT COULD DOMINATE THE TRAVEL TECH SPACE IN AFRICA

HOTEL OGA AND SAVANNA SUNRISE MERGE AS ONE

African travel tech space has just been rocked by the merger of two rival travel tech companies: HotelOga and Savannah Sunrise. The combination of the two companies will form the largest hospitality marketing technology company in online travel within the continent, not to mention partnerships they already have with worldwide travel names such as Booking.com, Expedia and TripAdvisor.  Read on to learn more about these two companies as they merger.

The travel sector in Africa is one of the fastest growing in the world (hyperlink). It is further being transformed by the rapid penetration of travel technology and internet use in the continent. If the merger is able to substantiate a position in the continent for the new company, it will be able to apply its tactics to other emerging economies around the world with similar characteristics.

Savanna Sunrise is a Kenyan company launched in 2014 with the function of travel and hospitality marketing. The company’s owners, Endre Opdal and Havar Bauck, have experience in hospitality and managing hotels.

HotelOga is a Nigerian company that equally provides efficient booking management and access to an eco-system supported by height tech. The founders of HotelOga are Marek Zmyslowski and Maciej Prostak.

In the initial stages, the two brands will continue to market separately until a unified marketing strategy is developed. The goal of the merger is to create enough power to concentrate their attention to emerging markets not only in Africa but globally. What’s your take on this merger? Will the combination of the East and West be as dynamic as anticipated? Let us know your take in the comments below.
