YOU KNOW THE FASTEST GROWING PRIVATE COMPANIES IN AFRICA

WHAT IS THE AFRICAN RANKING?

Former UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon said “Sustainable development is the pathway to the future we want for all. It offers a framework to generate economic growth, achieve social justice, exercise environmental stewardship and strengthen governance.” In the continent of Africa this development can be fostered by the development and growth of businesses that contribute back to their communities. In the past couple of years many of such companies have risen to the task. A newly launched platform will be able to keep a record of these rapidly growing companies for public access.

The “African Data Company”, Asoko Insight, has partnered with African Business Magazine and Ernst&Young to develop and launch a platform called The Africa Ranking. The app will be a ranking of the best performing, privately-held companies in the continent. It is the first ranking of privately held companies headquartered anywhere in Africa.

Privately owned companies will apply to be included in the ranking and can do so at this link. The rankings will be determined by three key indicators: financial performance, growth and governance. The criteria for companies that will be included in the ranking are that they have a minimum turnover of 500,000 USD, are profit-oriented and are headquartered in the continent. Finally, companies will be assessed based on year-on-year growth and not financial size.

The ranking debuted in February of this year. It will give African companies the exposure they need both on and off the continent. What do you think about this ranking? Let us know in the comments below.
