Huawei to Unveil World’s First Foldable Phone Ahead of Samsung

Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer, Huawei is planning to launch the world’s first foldable smartphone in November 2018.

Huawei seems to be aiming to release its own foldable phone this year ahead of Samsung according to a report from ETNews. This will make Huawei the maker of the first foldable phone available on the marketplace ahead Samsung.

Last year, Huawei CEO, Richard Yu stated that the company has an operating foldable phone that could be launched in 2018. Huawei has also filed a patent application with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Some days back, Huawei Foldable Phone Patent Leaked. The patent was published by using WIPO and includes pics of what Huawei has in mind. No doubt, Huawei can be the first OEM to have a truly foldable smartphone in their line-up.

The foldable Huawei device is a complete-sized tablet. It appears to fold in the middle to become a phone. However, there may be a “small gap” between the two screens while they are opened within the tablet position. But the company is working on it to take away this gap.

By using foldable screens, Huawei hope to double display size for buyers at the same time while maintaining pocket-sized form factors.

Huawei the world’s third largest cellphone dealer (153 million handsets shipped in 2017) hit headlines in march 2018 with its new phone, p20 Pro, the first cell phone to feature a triple camera, with a 40-megapixel sensor for colour, a 20-megapixel sensor for black and white and eight-megapixel sensor for the 3x optical zoom.
