AfriQloud Launches in Ugandan, Plans to Expand to 14 African Countries, KaiOS & Orange Partners to Bridge Africa’s Digital Divide and More

afriQloud—an emerging cloud service provider recently launched in Uganda. The platform was built on a partnership between BringCom, Imprimatur Capital and GIG Technology. They plan to leverage this platform to provide secure cloud services to the African tech ecosystem and expand to 15 other African countries. Isn’t this interesting?

Google has called for the Google News Initiative (GNI) Innovation Challenge Submission. The challenge is open to journalists in the Middle East, Africa and Turkey who aim to create innovative digital media projects. Selected projects will be eligible to receive the sum of $150,000 and up to 70% of the total project cost. Application is currently open and will run till the 2nd of September 2019. Interested? Seacom—a submarine communications cable operator, is set to expand across Africa. The company intends to expand to Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. This they plan to achieve after thorough research with the funding they got from the US Trade and Development Agency.

KaiOS Technologies and Orange has partnered to bridge the digital divide in Africa, considering that up to 827 million people are not digitized. They plan to also rollout Sanza, an affordable KiaOS-powered devices in 22 countries across Africa.

South African based non-profit organization World Vision, has selected Watergen—an Israeli company to aid the launch of a mobile water generation project for Eastern Cape communities in South Africa. World Vision intends to use a $200 000 awarded in conjunction with Ford Motor Company Fund and an additional $130 000 from Ford Research and Advanced Engineering to fund the project. Great initiative!
