Netcare & Founders Factory Africa Selects 35 Healthcare Startups for Incubation Program, Kenya Digital Lenders Association Adopts Self-Regulatory Framework and More

Big news! South African healthcare company, Netcare and Founders Factory Africa have revealed plans to select 35 healthtech startups for incubator and accelerator programs. They plan to leverage the opportunity to multiply healthcare solutions across Africa.

Next on the Big 5, Kangpe  – a Nigerian mobile healthcare startup has launched its first on-site clinic Reliance Family Clinics in Lagos Nigeria. The startup who first started as a telemedicine service provider is currently operating in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana. They plan to expand to other parts of Africa.

Moving on, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) recently launched SMEGA—a mobile money service. The service allows its users to purchase airtime, data, water bills, prepaid electricity, pay salaries and more from anywhere around the world through a passcode.  

There is also news that American ride hailing service Uber has plans to launch a boat business in Lagos Nigeria. They plan to use the service to reduce traffic congestion in Lagos Nigeria. The company is currently aligning with the appropriate authorities to enable the kick off of the service. Great initiative!

Finally, on the Big 5, Mobile money operators in Kenya has imposed self-regulations to promote ethical lending in Kenya. The Code of Conduct of the association will promote the ethical business practice in the country. This will prompt the lenders to practice responsible lending, disclose standardized prices and improve transactions transparency.
