Oracle Launches Tracking Blockchain Solution for Businesses, ZayRide Scales E-Hailing Services beyond Ethiopia and More

Remita, a digital payment platform has partnered with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to roll out the sales of WAEC PINS across their platforms. Prospective candidates of the 2019 West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Aug/Sept 2019 can conveniently purchase their registration PINs from all Remita platforms in Nigeria.

Now for the Big 5 news;

The American software company, Oracle launched ‘Oracle Intelligent Track and Trace’ blockchain solution for businesses. Organizations will leverage the application to boost their business’ security, supply chain traceability, and efficiency.

ZayRide– an on-demand taxi firm based in Ethiopia has collaborated with Liberia’s Hak Technologies to expand operations to Liberia. They plan to roll out about 200 vehicles into the new market. They also intend to launch their own Fintech platform, ArifPay in Ethiopia.

Glovo, a Spanish on-demand delivery courier company has re-entered the Egyptian market following an abrupt exit in April 2019. They were advised to return by the Egyptian Competition Authority after shutting down operations in the country. Glovo intends to relaunch their services across Egypt and soon expand to Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania.

The Chinese tech company, Huawei has recorded a 40% loss of its international phone sales. Their Smartphone sales sunk 40% in May 2019 due to the Entity List by the US administration. Hence, Huawei will be slashing production by $30 billion.

Finally, a new electric bracelet that will aid people to deal with bad habits is now on sale on Amazon. The bracelet will send a 350-volt electric shock to the wearer anytime it recognizes a programmed bad habit. Over time, the wearer can use this bracelet to break the habit of smoking, nail-biting, junk food addiction, drinking habits amongst others.
