Strive Masiyiwa to go Public with Botswana’s Biggest Telco, ‘Mascom Wireless’, Africa Tech Summit London Opens Door to Applicants and More

Zimbabwe’s richest man Strive Masiyiwa has concluded plans to go public with his Botswana’s biggest telecom company ‘MasCom’ for as low as $10 per share. The billionaire who recently acquired back his 60% stake in MasCom Wireless from MTN Group for an estimated price of $300 million said, he is listing in the stock market for the ordinary people of Botswana.

Moving on, Huawei’s first quarter report has proven that they are on track with their services. The report revealed that they generated CNY179.7 billion revenue in the first quarter of 2019; a 39% increase from last year and 8% net profit margin on ICT and smart devices.

Next on the Big 5, African tech startups from Lagos and Nairobi have been called to attend the Africa Tech Summit London event. The summit will be a means to network with international tech leaders and investors. All applicants will get the chance to pitch their business solutions to top investors and innovators during the Pitch Live London. Applications closes on the 30th of April 2019. There is also news that, Mastercard is expanding its Engage programme in Sub-Saharan Africa to support fintechs in Nairobi, Kenya and Lagos, Nigeria. The payment solution company stated that, partnerships with regional fintechs are important for ongoing innovation that delivers relevant payment solutions to empower communities. The Engage Program was launched in 2017 to meet the need of payment solution providers in Africa.

Finally, Nigeria’s Moshood Shades Ridwan has come out tops of the Animation du Monde pitch competition during the ICON CGC (ICON Comic and Gaming Convention) in Africa. He won with his animation titled ‘Into the Odd’ alongside; Cate Wood Hunter ‘Pixel’s Plan’ and Sean Steinberg and Sean Braam ‘Flying Low’.
